IIT Palakkad Website Design
UX Case Study: desktop website design for a prominent research institute in India
Role: UX Design & Research
Project Duration: March 2022 to May 2022
Developed as part of a Website Design Competition
Introduction
The project includes the redesign of the existing website of the newly established Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad
Given below is an excerpt from the competition brief:
"Submissions were expected to consist of one design for the institute website and one design for a department website. The websites should possess an aesthetic look and feel with a good color combination, background, structure, and layout. The layout and color palette should blend well with the colors and character of the institute's logo. The interface is expected to be modern and user-friendly with easy-to-navigate features and easy-to-use functions."
The Process
-
Study elements of the current website
-
Make current sitemap
-
Find issues with the current scheme through user reviews and competitive audit
-
Propose a new schema
-
Verify and make sure all current site elements are accommodated in the proposed scheme
Case Study
The process involved studying the websites of the more established IITs to ensure alignment with the existing ecosystem. The navigation items and site elements were studied to guarantee progressive design.
Following are the IITs studied as part of the research:
-
IIT Palakkad
-
IIT Madras (Chennai)
-
IIT Bombay (Mumbai)
-
IIT Delhi
-
IIT Kanpur
-
IIT Kharagpur
Given below is the comparison of the above-the-fold home screens of the 6 IITs.
The navigation options present on the home screens of each website were listed out.
The navigations options were realigned and matched to verify the elements that were present through majority of websites.
Moving on from the navigation elements, the study explored the site elements found in the home screens.
